The FranchiseInsights Editorial Standard

The policy every report, score, and figure on this site is produced under. Version 1.0, last updated 2026-07-25.

1. Independence

FranchiseInsights Pty Ltd (ABN 70 679 136 577) has no affiliation with any franchisor, franchise brand, franchise broker, or lender. We accept no franchisor commissions, referral fees, advertising, or paid placement on our public reports and rankings. No brand can pay to improve its score, its risk classification, or its position in any comparison. Revenue comes from buyers and professional advisers purchasing our reports and tools — the people the analysis serves.

That independence applies to our paying audience as well: partner or adviser status confers no influence over coverage, scoring, or which brands are reported on. A subscribing accountant, broker, or consultant gets access to the analysis — never a say in it.

2. Provenance

FranchiseInsights was founded by an operator with 17 years running franchise businesses in Australia. The analysis is built from the operator's side of the counter: what the fees actually cost, where the margin pressure sits, and which contract terms matter when trading gets hard. Positioning is deliberate — independent franchise intelligence, built by a franchisee, for buyers.

3. Data sources and verification

Figures are compiled from publicly available sources:

  • Published franchise disclosure material
  • Regulatory records — ACCC guidance and the Australian Business Register
  • Published franchise directories and industry reports
  • Media reporting and court records
  • Franchisor websites and published fee schedules

Every published figure must trace to a source record. Where a value cannot be verified it is shown as “not disclosed” — never estimated to fill a gap, and never shown as zero. Where a figure is an indicative range or estimate, it is labelled as one. Franchisor entity status is checked against the Australian Business Register, and a brand whose entity registration is cancelled or deregistered is blocked from publication until reviewed.

4. Risk scoring methodology

Every brand report carries a weighted risk score out of 10, built from five dimensions:

  • Financial risk — 30%. Capital required, fee burden, and return structure.
  • Structural risk — 25%. Contract terms, territory rights, renewal and exit provisions.
  • Operational risk — 20%. Labour intensity, operating complexity, and owner workload.
  • Market risk — 15%. Category saturation, demand durability, and competitive pressure.
  • Legal and compliance risk — 10%. Regulatory exposure and entity status signals.

Scores are produced by a deterministic weighted model: identical inputs always produce identical scores, and every dimension score is published with its weight and rationale in the report. The scoring framework is versioned; the same version applies to every brand so scores are comparable across the catalogue. Where a dimension currently runs on a baseline pending richer public data — the legal dimension is scored from entity-status signals and a conservative sector baseline — the report's rationale says so rather than implying a deeper source.

5. Update and refresh cadence

  • Weekly: source data is re-collected and new brands are researched, scored, and published.
  • Weekly rotation: existing brands are re-checked against their sources, with changes detected by content comparison — a report is only marked refreshed when its data has actually been re-verified, not merely re-built.
  • Twice weekly: published reports whose underlying data has verifiably changed, whose risk score has materially shifted, or which have aged past their review window are regenerated and republished. High-visibility brands are reviewed on a shorter window than the catalogue floor.
  • Every 30 days: customer-rating data refreshes. Every 90 days: franchisor entity status is re-checked against the Australian Business Register.

6. Corrections

If you believe a published figure is wrong, report it via the contact page. Verified errors are corrected at the data source — not patched over in display — so the correction propagates to the report, the site, and every derived figure. A correction that changes a risk score triggers a regeneration of the affected report. Data accuracy is the product; corrections are treated as release blockers, not maintenance.

Reports of a suspected error are acknowledged within 2 business days. A verified error is corrected and republished within 7 days of verification, and recorded in the corrections log below.

Corrections log

  • 2026-07-25Partner Agreement page showed an incorrect ABN (55 878 136 577); corrected to 70 679 136 577, the number now renders from a single source site-wide.

7. What we will not publish

  • Invented or estimated figures presented as fact
  • Buy / don't-buy recommendations — reports state findings, implications, and questions to ask, and the decision stays with the buyer
  • Paid or sponsored brand coverage of any kind
  • Claims about franchisor conduct that cannot be traced to a public record
